About Us

The Challenged Foundation (TCF) is a Ghanaian disability-led non-governmental organization committed to promoting the rights, inclusion, dignity, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

At TCF, we believe that disability should never limit a person’s opportunity to be heard, represented, educated, empowered, or included in society. Our work focuses on strengthening the voices and leadership of persons with disabilities through advocacy, mentorship, capacity-building, education, storytelling, and community engagement initiatives.

We create platforms that equip persons with disabilities with the confidence, knowledge, and practical skills needed to pursue their aspirations, participate actively in society, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Through advocacy campaigns, public education, stakeholder engagement, and policy-focused initiatives, TCF works to challenge discrimination, confront social and structural barriers, and promote accessibility, accountability, and equal opportunity for all.

The Foundation also implements initiatives that encourage leadership development, digital advocacy, emotional empowerment, and inclusive participation, while amplifying lived experiences to influence social change and policy implementation.

The Challenged Foundation is a wholly Ghanaian-owned organization incorporated under Ghana’s Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179). TCF currently implements disability advocacy and inclusion initiatives with the support of ADD International, strengthening its commitment to advancing disability rights and inclusive development across Ghana and beyond.

The Book

A Powerful Memoir of
Resilience, Advocacy & Triumph

Published by the Founder — Veronica L. Amartey-Owusu

Born in a small village in Ghana and struck by polio at a young age, Veronica L. Amartey-Owusu learned early that survival meant more than just enduring — it meant fighting back.

Silent Battles, Bold Victories is a gripping and inspiring memoir that takes readers on a journey through the harsh realities of living with a disability in a society that viewed her as “cursed.” Facing rejection, discrimination, and betrayal, Veronica refused to be silenced.

“Her search for opportunity led her to Germany, where she encountered new struggles — cultural isolation, systemic exclusion, and the ever-looming fear of deportation.”
